THINGS ARE JUST A LITTLE OFF
“Things Are Just a Little Off” is my latest body of work which was the result of isolation, crises, and loss. It covers a whole year, from the beginning of the quarantine until January 2021.
When the pandemic began, like many others, I was apprehensive about how to cope with being locked up at home alone for an undefined amount of time. To add to my concern over the COVID-19 crisis, I was continuing my life-long struggle with depression, had just lost my best friend of thirty years, and my partner of fifteen years had moved out weeks before the stay-at-home orders were issued in Los Angeles.
As a documentary photographer who loves being surrounded by people and who uses photography as one of my primary coping tools, I tried to come up with other artistic outlets that would give me the same therapeutic effect. My inspiration for the project came from a few of my favorites; Lee Friedlander’s ‘Little Screens’, Stephen Shore, and Martin Parr.
This project helped me get through challenging times and one can only hope that it will be a source of inspiration and strength for others who are enduring the same.
